Daniel Thorne
Where does acoustic become electronic? Improvisation become composition? These are the questions that have led composer/saxophonist Daniel Thorne to create an extremely personal sonic world that obscures and detaches his instrument from its typical associations. Born in Perth–where he received commissions from the Australia Council–but now based in Liverpool, Daniel acts as the artistic director of acclaimed new music group Immix Ensemble in addition to being a solo performer in his own right. A firm believer in the importance of collaboration, he has crafted electronic records with the likes of Vessel and Luke Abbott and provided arrangements and orchestrations for Jane Weaver, Bill Ryder-Jones, James Canty, and Joe Wills amongst others.
